Shipping and Receiving Specialist

Overview:

As part of the Materials Team, this role supports Production Schedules and Customer Service Orders by assisting in Shipping and Receiving functions, managing work orders, and handling inventory to meet those schedules. The Production Support Representative will work closely with the Materials Manager and Production Control Coordinator to establish timeline compliance. Qualified candidates must be extremely organized, detail-focused and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

  • Create plans, forecasts and schedules relating to materials required to meet operational requirements  
  • Undertake detailed and comprehensive analysis on material costs and identify opportunities for bulk discounts or cost savings from suppliers  
  • Assist with packaging customer order shipments according to established operating procedures 
  • Monitor data input to any Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system or IT system for accuracy and resolve any issues as required 
  • Review data integrity for the Bill of Materials (BOM), evaluate usage and cost of materials in relation to actual build 
  • Monitor inventory levels against agreed target levels 
  • Carry out routine inventory control audits and support inventory checks to validate accuracy 
  • Communicate with stakeholders via reports, updates, and analysis to aid decisions and optimize operational efficiency 
  • Work with Material Planning staff to resolve issues, update material schedules and ensure supporting MRP systems reflect forecast and demand for products 
  • Adhere to health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure safety and wellbeing self, other staff and visitors 

Requirements:

  • Experience with APICS training (preferred) 
  • Two-year degree or certificate
  • Knowledge and experience of using MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems  
  • Experience with power equipment including power saws, drills and forklifts. 
  • Relevant industry experience either in material planning, logistics or supply chain; preferably in the lumber or manufacturing environment  
  • Knowledge and understanding of a variety of manufacturing and lumber processes and components 
  • Proficient in basic functions of Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Experience or knowledge of statistics, forecasting and management information methods and techniques
